We were just boys at that time, teen-agers who ardently wanted to be priests . . .As was common practice in the 1940s, candidates for the priesthood were sought in Catholic grade schools and those young teenagers who felt called went off to a Preparatory Seminary and were introduced to a formation that profoundly transformed their lives. Their training was rigorous, but kind and gentle.

56. Zeal ~
After a while
those whose students
we were
perceived
there was no longer
need
to condition us
to Your service.
For
having done
what was told us,
and wanting more,
we now needed
bridling.
~
Nach einer Weile
begriffen diejenige
deren Schüler wir waren
daß es nicht länger notig war
uns für Deinen Dienst
fitzumachen.
Denn wir machten mehr
als was verlangt war
und daher mußten sie
uns nun zügeln.
