We were just boys at that time, teen-agers who ardently wanted to be priests . . .As was common practice in the 1940s, candidates for the priesthood were sought in Catholic grade schools and those young teenagers who felt called went off to a Preparatory Seminary and were introduced to a formation that profoundly transformed their lives. 46. American ~
They grounded us
in the French
traditions,
talked quietly
and tended to us
like plants,
but
never stopped
to think
how different
our soil was.
~
Sie gründeten uns
in Französischen Traditionen
sprachen leise
und umsorgten uns
wie Pflanzen,
kamen aber nie
zu der Einsicht
daß unsere Welt
eine ganz andere war.
