We were just boys at that time, teen-agers who ardently wanted to be priests . . .As was common practice in the 1940s, candidates for the priesthood were sought in Catholic grade schools and those young teenagers who felt called went off to a Preparatory Seminary and were introduced to a formation that profoundly transformed their lives. 39. Passageways ~
Who ever counted
our myriad passages
through
the silent confines
of corridors
and halls
in ordered
rhythmic traffic
over porous yellow tiles?
~

durch die stillen Schleuche
von Korridoren und Hallen
über poröse gelben Fliesen
in geordnetem rhythmischem Schritt
gezählt?
