We were just boys at that time, teen-agers who ardently wanted to be priests . . .As was common practice in the 1940s, candidates for the priesthood were sought in Catholic grade schools and those young teenagers who felt called went off to a Preparatory Seminary and were introduced to a formation that profoundly transformed their lives. Their training was rigorous, but kind and gentle.

76. Being Spoiled ~
Could it be
that You spoiled us
like no others
because a War
had just been waged
and even You
needed boyish consolation
during those
distorted days?
~
Könnte es sein
daß Du uns deshalb
wie keine anderen verwöhntest
gerade weil ein Krieg
geführt worden war
und sogar Du
Trost von Jungen brauchtest
während solche verworrenen Zeiten?
